Quick Start
TapNota is designed so you can begin using your labels directly from your phone without downloading an app.
Scan One Label
Open your phone's camera and point it at the QR code on any unused TapNota label in your pack.
Activate Your Pack
Follow the on-screen instructions and enter your email address. Activating one label activates the entire TapNota pack.
Attach & Describe
Attach a label to your bin, box, tote, equipment, container, or other item. Scan it and add a name, notes, photos, or other information.
Find It Later
Use your TapNota Portal to search and organize your labeled items or scan a label again to open its individual item page.
1. Activate Your TapNota Pack
Scan any TapNota label using your phone's camera.
Open the camera on your smartphone and point it at the QR code on any TapNota label in the pack.
- Tap the link displayed by your phone.
- Enter the email address you want associated with your TapNota account.
- Complete the on-screen verification steps.
- Your TapNota pack is then connected to your account.
2. Attach Your Labels
TapNota labels can be used on boxes, bins, organizers, totes, equipment, and other items.
Apply each TapNota label to the item or container you want to identify.
For best results:
- Apply the label to a clean, dry surface.
- Place it where the QR code can be easily scanned.
- Avoid placing the label over deep curves, folds, or seams.
- Keep the QR code visible and unobstructed.
After applying the label, scan it to add information about that specific item.
3. Add Information to an Item
Add information to an individual TapNota item page.
Each TapNota QR label has its own item page. Scan the label whenever you want to view or update information associated with that label.
Depending on the item, you can use its page to:
- Give the item a recognizable name.
- Add notes or descriptions.
- Add item photos.
- Update information when contents change.
- Review information associated with that QR label.
4. Use the TapNota Portal
Your Portal provides one place to search and manage your TapNota items.
Your TapNota Portal is the account-level view of your TapNota labels and items.
You can use the Portal to:
- Search for labeled items.
- View assigned and unassigned labels.
- Open individual item pages.
- Rename items.
- Organize items into folders.
- Review recent activity.
- Reprint an individual QR code when needed.
Instead of scanning every container when looking for something, search the Portal using the name or information you previously entered.
Portal vs. Item Page
TapNota Portal
The Portal displays and organizes the TapNota items connected to your account. Use it when you want to search across multiple items, manage folders, or review your labels.
Individual Item Page
Each QR label opens its own item page. Use the item page when you want to view or update information associated with one particular label.
Make Future Sign-In Easier
After accessing your TapNota Portal, you can create a password for easier future access.
- Open your TapNota Portal.
- Select Change Sign-In.
- Follow the instructions to create or update your sign-in method.
- Use your email address and password for future Portal access.
Adding Another TapNota Pack
If you purchase an additional TapNota pack, you can add it to the same account.
- Scan any label from the new TapNota pack.
- Use the same email address associated with your existing TapNota account.
- Complete the on-screen activation steps.
- The new pack will be associated with the same TapNota account.
Searching for an Item
Use the Search & Filter area in your TapNota Portal to locate an item based on the information saved with it.
- Open your TapNota Portal.
- Use the search field.
- Enter the item name or other identifying information.
- Open the matching item from the results.
Using clear item names and useful notes can make items easier to locate later.
Reprinting a QR Code
If you need another copy of an individual QR code, locate that item in your TapNota Portal and use the Print QR option.
The printed QR code should correspond to the same TapNota item. Keep the QR code clear and large enough for a phone camera to scan reliably.
Troubleshooting
My phone will not scan the QR code
- Open the phone's standard camera application.
- Make sure the entire QR code is visible.
- Move the phone slightly farther away or closer.
- Make sure there is enough light.
- Clean the camera lens if the image appears blurry.
- Make sure the QR code is not folded, covered, or obstructed.
I scanned a label but do not see my existing items
Make sure you are using the same email address that was used to activate your existing TapNota account. Different email addresses may be associated with separate accounts.
I bought another pack and it is not in my existing account
Scan a label from the new pack and complete activation using the same email address associated with your existing TapNota account.
I have trouble returning to my Portal
Once you are signed in to the Portal, select Change Sign-In and create a password. This provides another way to access the Portal in the future.
I attached a label to the wrong item
Open that label's item page or locate it in the Portal and update the item's name, notes, photos, or other information to reflect the correct item.
Common Questions
Do I need to download an app?
No. TapNota works through your phone's camera and web browser. No TapNota app is required.
Do I have to activate every label individually?
No. Scan a label from the pack and complete pack activation. The pack is then associated with your TapNota account.
Do I need a PIN to use TapNota?
No. Item-page PIN protection is optional and is not required for normal TapNota label use.
Is a paid subscription required to use my Amazon TapNota pack?
No paid subscription is required to use the organization features included with the Amazon Smart Tag Pack. Amazon Smart Tag Pack accounts include the full Portal organization experience for up to 600 active tags.
Can I use more than one TapNota pack with the same account?
Yes. Activate additional packs using the same email address associated with your existing TapNota account.
What is the difference between scanning a label and using the Portal?
Scanning a label opens information associated with that individual QR code. The Portal lets you search, organize, and manage multiple TapNota items from one account.
Can I change an item's information later?
Yes. Scan the label again or locate the item in your Portal and update its information.
Can I reprint a QR code?
Yes. Locate the item in your Portal and use the Print QR option.
TapNota Smart Tag Pack Account Information
TapNota Smart Tag Packs purchased through Amazon include the TapNota Portal organization experience for up to 600 active tags.
Organization features such as item management, searching, folders, notes, and Portal access are included with the Smart Tag Pack. Item-page PIN protection and active-tag capacity beyond the included limit are separate optional account features and are not required for normal product use.
